#ArmyDay : Nation salutes real life heroes who ensure our safety with cost of their lives

Mumbai, January 15: If we sleep peacefully every day knowing that we are in a safe country, then we should thank none other than the Indian Army. On 70th Army Day nation bows to the real-life heroes who are dedicating each and every moment to safeguard us from all dangers awaiting on the other side of borders. The day is celebrated in recognition of Field Marshal K M Cariappa‘s taking over as India’s first commander in chief from General Francis Butcher, last British commander in chief. President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the nation have conveyed their greetings to the veterans.

India got the long-awaited freedom from British Colonial rulers on 15th August. 1947. But it took almost one year and four months for any Indian officer to take charge of Indian Army. The rein of Indian Army was finally transferred to Marshal Carriappa on Jan 15, 1949. He took the charge from the last commander in chief from the British Empire. ON this day, we not only commemorate that but also remember every soldier who dedicates their lives to keep Indian flag flying high in the sky.

From dessert to the glacier, Indian army reaches everywhere in every critical situation. Indian Army even functions at the Siachen Glacier which is about 5000 meters above sea level. World’s second largest army which till date remains a voluntary service always puts our Nation first. Again on this day, Indian armies take a pledge at this day to maintain their service and protect the nation from enemies whether they are foreign or domestic.

On this precious day, multiple cities across India observe the security personnel conducting parade. In New Delhi, parade at Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment is being reviewed by General Bipin Rawat. On Monday, a new RIFD enabled ECHS Smartcard was launched for its beneficiaries which will provide enhanced features and facilitate the veterans in utilizing medical services. The smart card application can be filled and tracked online.
