BSF kills 7 Pakistani Rangers in retaliatory firing along LoC

Islamabad, January 15: In retaliation for the death of three Indian soldiers, the Indian Army has shot down seven Pakistani jawans and injured 4 others along Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir's Poonch district. 

"Indian Army carries out retaliatory action against Pakistan, killing 7 soldiers and injuring 4 others in forward areas along LoC in J-K's Poonch district," Army said in a statement.

This is being marked as a major victory for the forces on the Army Day and the news came hours after they killed 6 JeM terrorists in Uri. Just days before Army chief Bipin Rawat had called Pak's nuclear war threats as a 'bluff'.

In tactical operations and retaliatory cross-border firings along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army has eliminated at least 138 Pakistan Army personnel last year.

Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the International Border (IB) and the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir more than 720 times last year, the highest in the past seven years.

According to data compiled by the Union Home Ministry, Pakistani forces have violated ceasefire 724 times along the IB and the LoC till October in comparison to 449 times in 2016.

As many as 12 civilians and 17 security personnel were killed in the firing from across the border until last October.
