Jindal group announces to invest 400 crores in West Bengal

Salboni, January 15: Ahead of Global Business summit in Bengal, good news comes to industry map of the state. Jindal group has announced 400 crore investment in the state in next two years. On Monday, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate JSW’s cement plant at Salboni, in West Medinipur, the first industrial project from the JSW stable in Bengal.

Though the original project was conclaved in 2007 under Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s rule but due to various political, financial reason, the project did not start then. Later in 2016, current CM Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone for a cement plant.

SW Cement Managing Director Parth Jindal said the annual capacity was 2.4 million tonnes and the investment was Rs 8 billion. Another 1.2 million tonnes would be added and a captive power plant of 18-Mw would be set up. Many local families lost their lands unwillingly for the sake of the project. Among them, around 155 people from land-loser families have been employed at the plant.
