New Delhi, January 15: In a bid to retain the southern stronghold Karnataka, Congress President Rahul Gandhi is all set to kick-start the most awaited poll campaign after assuming the office of Congress President.

As reported by The Hindu, Gandhi will kick off the Karnataka campaign with a three-day long state visit which will begin from February 10. This will be the first full-fledged election under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi where the grand old party is keen on retaining the southern state to boost the morale of party workers ahead of the 2019 general election.

On January 13, Gandhi chaired the review meeting where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Congress in-charge G. Parameshwara and the senior leader and former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily were reportedly present. Speaking to the media, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed that incumbent Congress government has fulfilled all the poll promises. He further added that so-called anti-incumbency factor would not affect the performance of Congress.

The 225-member Karnataka Assembly will go to poll in March-April, where principal opposition party BJP is trying hard to regain the lost turf of Karnataka under the leadership of senior leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
