EU still welcomes Britain to join its flock

Brussels, January 16: Donald Tusk, the European Council president, weighed into new British debate on whether to hold a second referendum on Brexit by saying on Tuesday that Britons would be welcome to stay in the European Union.

Updating the European Parliament on the summit he chaired last month at which EU leaders agreed to open talks with London on the post-Brexit future, the former Polish premier said:

“If the UK government sticks to its decision to leave, Brexit will become a reality, with all its negative consequences, in March next year, unless there is a change of heart among our British friends.”

Recently British PM Theresa May held talks with the European Union but failed to achieve the goal on making any breakthrough to move on to transition and trade. And also she was warned that back-stepping may suspend future deals.

 

Britain is set to leave the bloc on March 29, 2019, but the negotiations must be wrapped up in less than a year to leave parliaments time to ratify the agreement.

Recently Britain officially declared that it is the world’s sixth strongest economy. Since many years Britain was in the top five economies of the world but France beat Britain which put the country in the sixth position. The slide reflects a sharp deceleration in Britain's economic growth since it voted to leave the European Union in June 2016.
