Barmer, January 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the commencement of work at the oil refinery in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. Notably, the mega oil refinery will bring a massive change in growth landscape of Rajasthan and western parts of the state in particular and will also create huge employment. PM Modi also inaugurated 11 completed National Highway projects, covering a total length of about 873 km.

After the inauguration, PM Modi addressed a public meeting in which he hailed Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for her work to bring drought situations under control. He said, “The manner in which Vasundhara Raje has managed drought situations during both her terms and helped people is commendable. It is in contrast to the opposition in the state, whose poor drought management in Rajasthan is widely known.”

He further said, “This is a time for 'Sankalp Se Siddhi.' We have to identify our targets and work towards achieving them by 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom.” PM Modi criticized Congress Party on this occasion and said, “Some people mislead citizens often. Their misleading the nation on Barmer refinery is not the exception, it is a norm when it comes to them. There are several such areas in which they have been misleading the nation for years.”

Acknowledging government’s work, PM Modi said, “When we assumed office, one of the first things we did was to see what work has been done on promises in the Railway Budget. Just for a few claps in Parliament, some people made promises they could never keep. We were determined to end that culture of misleading.”

Referring to the Army’s One Rank One Pension PM Modi said, “For 40 years nothing was done about OROP. Before the 2014 elections a token sum was allocated towards OROP even when it was widely known this sum is unrealistic and too less. It was our commitment to make OROP a reality and we worked towards making that possible.”

“The previous Government allotted Rs. 500 crores for OROP knowing fully well this number is not the accurate figure. Is this the respect they had for the armed forces,” the Prime Minister added. Taking a jibe at Congress, PM Modi said, “For them, 'Garibi Hatao' was an attractive slogan. They nationalised the banks but the doors of the banks never opened for the poor. Jan Dhan Yojana changed this and the poor got access to banking facilities.”

“Remember how much trouble one faced to get a gas cylinder? One had to go to MPs for a letter. Many MPs sold coupons in black. It was not acceptable to me that the women of India should suffer due to lack of cooking gas facilities,” the PM noted.

PM Modi also prayed for the speedy recovery of Jaswant Singh. Importantly, the Rajasthan Refinery will be the first and one of a kind in the state.
