Geospatial World Forum 2018 seeks to chalk out ‘Scientific Solutions’ for combating societal issues

Hyderabad, January 17: Geospatial World Forum 2018 opened up in Hyderabad International Convention Centre, focuses on the locational information and its applications across the globe for various purposes. Inaugurated by Science and Technology Minister Dr Harshavardhan, Geospatial World Forum 2018 seeks to come up with Scientific Solutions to abide by social responsibility. 

The event is being attended by global experts in geospatial technology from across various verticals like remote sensing, telecommunication, satellites and others.

 

The event aims to bring together all these players at a single platform to provide intra-industry exposure and discuss their respective progress and decide upon a common future through technology and ideas exchange.

The event has been kicked off with an inaugural ceremony by the opening speaker, Dean Angelis, Corporate Director, International/ Alliances/ Partners – ESRI, USA informed the attendees of the importance of locational information and how the world is moving towards a complete dependence on Maps and locational services.

He said “across the world, Maps and locational based apps are the most used ones.” On a similar note, Amy Minnick, Sr. Vice President, Digital Globe, USA, adds “4 the industrial revolution is characterized by the integration of physical and digital data.” As the event goes on, a list of speakers from the world over will be sharing their own on agendas on geospatial information and how they are applying the same to their services. The Geospatial World Forum has previously been held in Amsterdam, Geneva, Lisbon and Rotterdam.

Also Indian Space Research Organization, Chairman, Kiran Kumar, spoke on ‘India’s vision of Space for All for inclusive and sustainable development.’ It is time for the governments and industry to work together for the benefit of the citizens and towards a sustainable future, said Kiran Kumar.

The Geospatial World Forum was graced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that this is a vision of Government of India's vision of technology for development. Lauding the efforts of ISRO, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that “When India launched its space program; our connection with space was all about poetry/limericks. Now we have not only launched satellites but also the #chandrayan and discovered water on moon.” India has now become the leader in Space Technology, Singh added.

Later on the while addressing the Geospatial World Forum, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Harshvaradhan said that space technologies enable and connect 32 ministries in India, complementing each other's work. Geospatial is no more a fundamental science; it has become a solutions science.

Science has to be not alone fundamental, but solution science to address societal issues like corporate social responsibility, there should also be a Scientific Social Responsibility, Dr Harshavardhan added.
