New Delhi, January 17: The nation had not overcome the news of the upcoming solar cars, that now the streets are set to gear up with robot drivers. Uber is all set to extend its service where the commuters will use their mobiles to summon fully autonomous robot taxis. Yes you heard it right! The automotive company has expressed its desire to extend its service by letting cars run through robotic drivers.

These taxis will collect the commuters from home and drop them to the closest metro station where it will be easily accessible for them to travel to work in the city. These zero-emission vehicles will be electric, powered by solar or wind energy. These taxis will help in depleting the challenges of congestion and climate changes. With these autonomous taxis there will be a significant rise in higher capacity and usage rates, and integrated with traffic optimization systems, cities could reduce the number of cars on their streets by more than 40%.

Features of the Robotic Taxi.

The taxi will have a top mounted LiDAR which enable the car to have a look of cars around the surrounding. This will give a 3D image of the traffic map.

Along with this the car also has a coloured camera which will allow the car to view the traffic in the area.

In the front the LiDAR module has a section which will enable the car to detect obstacles in dark places.

The taxi also has a cooling syaytem which will control and avoid overheating in the vehicle.

On the top the car has ANTENNAE which will set the car position itself using the GPS.

Apart from this the car has 20 cameras to avoid obstacles and have a control on braking vehicles and pedestrians.

While the silent revolution is creating new inventions this robotic taxi will add up to the list of innovation in the coming years. Consumer behaviour is also evolving, as younger people show less appetite to own and drive cars. Car ownership has fallen since 2000 in some countries. Urbanization is also an important factor, as commuters seek alternative and integrated means of transportation. This further favours the emergence of robot taxis.

Ultimately, cities will control and regulate urban flexibility. Working with mobility providers, automotive companies and the energy sector, they will make the policies and decisions that will catalyze this transformation and provide clean, affordable and secure mobility to their urban populations.
