#Vyapam Scam: CBI files chargesheet against former Madhya Pradesh Minister and 94 others

New Delhi, January 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against former Madhya Pradesh Minister Laxmikant Sharma, his Officer on Special Duty and 93 others in one of the cases related to the Vyapam scam.

The charge sheet, filed in a special court in Bhopal, also named Pankaj Trivedi, the then controller of examinations at Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board also known as Vyapam. The names also include the then principal system analyst in Vyapam, two other officials, six middlemen and 83 candidates.

 

CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said, the agency has charged them with criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, violation of IT Act, provisions of prevention of corruption act and others. CBI had registered an FIR in the case in 2015 on the directions of the Supreme Court.

The case relates to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of contractual teachers through Vyapam in 2011. CBI investigation revealed that the candidate took the alleged assistance of Middlemen for arranging Solver to appear for him in the said examination. The Middlemen arranged one Solver for the written examination.

Vyapam is a government body to conduct examinations for government jobs in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The scam involves massive irregularities and corruption in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or MP Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal. It has been alleged that the corrupt officials at the board took money to compromise the examination and recruitment for several professional course including Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, MCA, Teaching etc. The current accusations mostly involve teaching recruitments.
