Bengal bags investment commitment of 2.19 trillion through Global Business Summit

Kolkata, January 18: Bengal Global Business Summit concludes with the same fervor it started. The conclusion indicates a new start for Bengal industry as the state has bagged investment proposals worth Rs 2.19 trillion. The state has announced that the investments will lead to employment opportunity for 20 lakhs youth.

The state government is eying for employment opportunities through these investments, has indicated clearly from the stage of BGBS 2018. Administration has demanded the main aim is to create job opportunities as well as making people of the state self-reliant.

"If you calculate all together, with whatever business proposals we have received, employment for more than 20 lakh people will be created," Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said,.She termed the fourth edition of the summit as a “successful” one.

As per official statement, West Bengal has signed 11 MoUs with several companies. It has signed a MoU with Uber cab service to create 1 lakh opportunities in next 5 years. Reliance Industry chairman Mukesh Ambani proposed 50 billion investment. Adani group also committed 750 crore investments.

The opposition parties in the state were dubious about the investments and employment opportunities from beginning. Hence, they asked for a white paper stating exact implementation of investments made in earlier years. “Nearly 50 per cent of the commitments made in the 2017 are underway. These are fresh proposals,” the Chief Minister said.
