Jammu, January 18: As many as 363 terrorists were killed while 176 were arrested during last two years in Jammu and Kashmir. This was said by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in a state Legislative Assembly.

 

While giving a reply to a written question by legislator Sat Paul Sharma, CM Mehbooba Mufti said that 363 terrorists and 71 civilians were killed while 176 were arrested during last two years in Jammu and Kashmir. "363 militants including 117 locals and 246 foreigners were killed during operations in the year 2016 and 2017", CM Mehbooba Mufti added.

The Chief Minister also noted that during the said period large quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered including 391 AK rifles, 182 pistols, 11 RPG/RL, 3 sniper rifles, 39 IEDs and 638 grenades/ hand grenades.

BACKGROUND:

Importantly, soon after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government came into the power, security forces have got a free hand to operate in Kashmir and eliminate terrorism and other anti-national elements. The Indian security forces have led a massive war against terrorism and terrorists in the inner parts of Jammu-Kashmir and forward areas.

The slain terrorists included over a dozen top commanders including Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Abu Khalid, Abu Musaib, the nephew of Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba leader, Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, Lashkar-Toiba Kashmir chief Abu Dujana, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, Amarnath attack mastermind and Lashkar-Toiba Kashmir chief Abu Ismail and others. There are over 200 terrorists active in Kashmir.
