NIA files case against 5 hailing from Kerala for backing ISIS

Kannur, January 18: Kerala’s rural district Kannur has witnessed many cases where people have left homes to join Islamic State IS. Again the National Investigation Agency has registered a case against five Kerala youth for their alleged links with the Islamic State. 

The NIA has registered the case at Valapattanam section of Kerala under Sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. These 5 have been identified as Midhilaj, Abdul Razak, Rashif MV, Manaf Rahmanand Hamsa. All the five are residents of Kannur district.

The charge against them was that they were members of the ISIS. It was also alleged that they had travelled out of India to join the terror group in Syria and fight for it.

"The five culprits have been accused of being members of the proscribed terrorist organization Syria- Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)/ Daesh and for supporting the organization by travelling or attempting to travel out of India to join the terrorist organization in Syria where it is waging war with the Asiatic nation, having friendly relations with the Government of India", NIA statement read.

Meanwhile, Kerala’s youth is shifting to the way that leads to ‘ISIS’, Kerala Police confirmed about 100 Keralites are suspected to have joined Islamic State over the years.
