Twin suicide blasts rock Nigeria’s Borno state causing multiple deaths, injuries

Maiduguri, January 18: Again suicide blasts have rocked Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri. The twin blasts took away ten fresh lives, injuring several 65 others. The attack took place in Borno state, the stronghold of Boko Haram.

The attack was carried out in Muna Garage area located on the outskirts of Maiduguri, capital of the Borno state. Two people from book haram are being suspected for denoting the bombs, though the official report was contradictory. However, the blasts caused huge damage.

"Preliminary reports indicate that four female suicide bombers were responsible for the blast," Abdulkadir Ibrahim, spokesperson of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said in a statement. "The Emergency Response Team [from NEMA] has responded to 65 injured people who were given first aid and transported to hospitals while 10 others lost their lives," he added.

The first blast among the twin happened at the entrance of the market, whereas the second one in the center of the market. The Wednesday incident is the first of its kind in 2018. In last year, the Muna area of the city witnessed no fewer than 12 suicide attacks. Boko Haram has caused thousands of death and forced many people to relocate.
