Creating a historic move, Maharashtra cabinet announces 1% reservation for orphans

Mumbai, January 18: In a historic move to bring equality among all, Maharashtra became the first state to announce one percent reservation for orphans. The decision taken by the State Cabinet with the aim of socially and economically empowers the orphan children.


 

With the aim to secure the future of orphans the Chief Minister approved and announced to give 1 % reservation to the orphans. To emphasise more on the topic, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Pankaja Munde said the one per cent reservation for orphans will not affect other communities benefiting from quotas. It will be introduced within open category to help orphans get education and employment, especially in government services.

The decision will help orphans overcome problems faced by them while applying for jobs since they don't know their caste. With the help of one per cent reservation in the general category, they can get jobs and avail other facilities. This will initiate the young generation to explore their talent and get jobs in those sectors they are interested in.

In order to give a boost to social and economic development the cabinet also approved the investment of Rs.5000 crore for the Maharashtra State Innovation and Startup policy. This policy ails to give an ideal platform for innovative and creative ideas. Along with this the educational and industrial sector will also set up 15 start-ups. The policy will help launch 10,000 start-ups with employment opportunities to all the sections of the society.
