United Kingdom, January 18: With the onset of increasing issues of people getting affected by new disease and health issues, researchers are on the verge of discovering methods to deal with these sicknesses. Naturally, our lives would be much simpler if we could just get one "universal" flu vaccine shot that could protect against most strains for a longer period of time. Now it looks like Vaccitech, a private spinoff of Oxford University in the United Kingdom, is getting closer and closer to that goal.

Imbibing a subtle goal that would have massive benefits for global public health and eliminate our need for annual injections, researchers of a company in the UK is currently undergoing a clinical trial of what could become the first universal flu vaccine in the world. It is estimated that currently our planet is facing its worst flu season in years, in comparison to the seasonal vaccine that's proved to be less effective than usual.

The reason we need a new flu injection or immunization every year is because the mended virus keeps changing, because of the several strains floating around the environment at any one time. Through global consultation the epidemiologists have been working on bringing out vaccines for these viruses. This method has varied levels of success depending on how the virus shifts during the vaccine production period, which can take several months. The world-first trial is currently testing the vaccine's efficacy in 862 people aged 65 and older, and the researchers are estimating to complete this effort by October 2019.
