New Delhi, January 19: Paving the way for the grand releases of Sanjay Lila Bhansali’s epic drama ‘Padmaavat’, the supreme court today rejected the plea questioning the certificate issued to the makers of Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Padmaavat’.

Quashing the petition filed by lawyer M.L. Sharma, the apex reiterated that legal machinery cannot challenge the operations of competent and independent authority like Central Board of Film Certification. The Supreme court bench also rejected the submission for an urgent hearing of matter by citing the previous judgment on the screening of the film.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud has directed respective states to ensure the law and order situation and asked state administration to fine-tune security measures for the same. The apex court has already granted interim relief to the presenters of Padmaavat.

Touted to be a visual treat, Sanjay Lila Bhansali’s much anticipated period flick will hit the screens on January 25 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. It will be the first Indian film to get a global IMAX 3D release. Made with a whopping budget of 190 crores, Padmaavat is the most controversial through much anticipated period drama helmed by legendary director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bankrolled by leading production house Viacom18 Motion Pictures in association with Bhansali Productions, the period drama is based on the fictional work of Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
