India to purchase 240 bombs, 131 Barak Missiles to strengthen its defence

New Delhi, January 2: A country grows strong when its defence sector is strengthened. Therefore PM Modi led central government right from the day one of its rules has taken various initiatives, decisions that have anonymously strengthened our country’s defence sector. Notably, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday cleared two procurement proposals in a bid to strengthen armed forces.

 

Minister Nirmala Sitharaman cleared all decks for two procurement proposals including a purchase of 240 bombs and 131 Barak Missiles with associated equipment from Russia and Israel respectively. The first proposal was related to procurement of 240 bombs, at a cost of Rs. 1254 cr. from M/s JSC Rosonboron Exports, Russia.

These bombs fall under the category of Precision Guided Munitions, are used by Indian Air Force (IAF). This procurement will address the deficiency of Precision Guided Munitions in the IAF arsenal, besides enhancing the offensive capabilities of the IAF.

While the second proposal pertained to the procurement of 131 Barak Missiles and associated equipment, under option clause from M/s Rafeal Advance Defence Systems Ltd., Israel, at a cost of Rs. 460 cr. These missiles are surface to air missiles designed to be used as a ship-borne anti-missile defence system against anti-ship missiles.
