Anglia, January 2: If the temperature rises by 2 degrees we think how does it actually matter? While scientists are constantly over temperature rise we keep continuing to ignore them. But we may soon live in a world where one-third of the land is filled with desserts.

New research has warned increase of just 2°C (3.6°F) in global temperatures could make the world considerably drier and more desert-like. More than 1.5 billion people will live in a more arid region while drought and wildfires will be a more common phenomenon.

'Aridification would emerge over 20 to 30 percent of the world's land surface by the time the global temperature change reaches 2ºC (3.6ºF)', said Indian Origin scientist Dr. Manoj Joshi. We know very well aridification can impact areas such as agriculture, water quality, and biodiversity.

“Our research predicts that aridification would emerge over about 20-30 percent of the world’s land surface by the time the global mean temperature change reaches 2C,” said study co-author Dr. Manoj Joshi. “But two-thirds of the affected regions could avoid significant aridification if warming is limited to 1.5C.”

While the world has already warmed by 1-degree celcius, reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere can be really effective. If warming is kept under 1.5-degree celcius then aridification can be significantly reduced.
