Eastern Railway arranges special trains for Ganga Sagar Mela

Kolkata, January 2: Hindus from all over the world reaches the confluence of Ganges at Sagar Sangam situated in southern part of West Bengal in India during Gangasagar mela. It is often said that one visit to Gangasagar is worth lifetime. To control the rush of pilgrimages to Gangasagar, Eastern Railway has announced 13 special trains.

The island of Gangasagar is among the most popular Hindu pilgrimage places in the country. Each year on Makar Sankranti (mid-January), the large number of devotees from all over the nation, congregate at Gangasagar for a sacred dip at the convergence of the river Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. After the sacred dip, the pilgrims offer 'Puja' at the Kapil Muni Temple or Ashram. In several Hindu myths, the name Gangasagar is mentioned, Gangasagar also finds itself in the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore.

The special trains will run from 12th January to 16th January. Eastern Railway statement says, on 12th January, two Gallopin local trains will be run in the Sealdah-Nana area. Three special trains will run between Namaha-Sealdah. Two special trains will be run in the Kolkata-named ones. One will run in Namaha-Lakshmikantpur. Another special train will be run on that day in Lakshmikantpur-Sealdah. The January 13 special train will be like 12th January schedule.

Special trains will run also on 14, 15 and 16 January. Also, on 14 and 15 January, 34981 Kakdeep-Laxmikantpur local will be stretched till Sealdah. Similarly, on 15 January, Nama-Laksmikantpur-Ballygunge Local will be run till Sealdah.
