Mahadayi row: Congress demands PM Modi’s intervention

New Delhi, /Bengaluru, January 2: Expressing deep concern over the ongoing battle between Karnataka and Goa on the issue of water sharing, senior Congress Leader S P Muddahanume Gowda today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter of Mahadayi Water Dispute.

 The Tumkur lawmaker raised the matter during Zero Hour. He briefed houses about the plight of people in northern Karnataka who are in deep trouble due to the acute water crisis. Responding to the Congress leader, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has already written a letter to state BJP Chief B S Yeddyurappa for outside negotiations to resolve the deadlock.

On the other hand, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a jibe at state BJP leadership for mocking the people of Karnataka on the issue of Mahadayi dispute. Launching a fierce attack on Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Siddaramaiah expressed displeasure over the delaying of Mahadayi negotiation. Speaking to the media Siddaramaiah dared Parrikar to clear his stand on sharing of water before Mahadayi River Water Disputes Tribunal. The Karnataka Chief Minister slammed Parrikar for ignoring the official communication of state government.
