Going to Puducherry? Then remember ‘blue caps’ are there for your safety

Puducherry, January 2: Union Territory Puducherry formally launched a distinct service for tourists. The Union Territory Police has established a separate wing of Tourist police for helping the tourists. Even the uniform of this police will be different that is blue ‘Kepi caps’ and a blue badge with tourists emblem.

Director General of Police S K Gautam says that with the distinct uniforms this tourist police will be frequented on the beaches. They will be deployed on the beach Promenade, Kalapet beach and Paradise beach, drawn from different police stations. Collectively they will be working together but will be reporting to their respective police stations, said DGP.

 

Apart from assisting the tourists, they will also play a positive role to ensure that no crime is committed against the tourists. The main aim is to provide security and guidance to tourists visiting Puducherry.

The tourist cops will be having certain qualities like a proper conversation, skills to protect the tourists, knowledge about the tourist places etc.

The tourist police will have the knowledge of certain languages like Hindi, English and French apart from Tamil so that they can have a smooth conversation with local, national and international tourists as well. Also they will have knowledge of swimming so that they can save the tourists if they are drowning in the sea. Till now 20 constables, head constables are being trained with these different qualities.
