Cairo, January 20: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Friday that he will run for the second term in Egypt’s presidential elections, in which he is highly expected to win easily. The election will be held on March 26-28, with a run-off vote on April 24-26 if no candidate wins more than 50 percent in the first round.

During the televised conference where Sisi made the announcement, he stressed the importance of citizen’s participation in the voting ceremony. "Your participation in the election will be a strong message," he said. He urged citizens to cast vote to “preserve the democratic experience that begun four years ago".

Till now, three aspiring candidates have announced intentions to run for the 2018 presidential elections. Human rights defender Khaled Ali, MP Mortada Mansour, former Army Chief-of-Staff Sami Anan are the three others.

Sisi took charge in 2014 a year after he led the ouster of his Islamist predecessor Mohammed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against Morsi's one-year rule and his now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group. Sisi brought stability to Egypt on a certain level but it is highly alleged that under Sis’s rule human right conditions have deteriorated in the country.
