Massive fire at cracker factory takes 17 lives; 5 lakhs to the dead and 1 lakh to injured

New Delhi, January 21: A massive fire broke out at a firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi's Bawana industrial area on Saturday. The incident has taken lives of 17 and few injured till now. Manoj Jain, who ran the factory, has been arrested. A probe revealed it was a factory of "cold firecrackers" used in stage shows and Holi celebrations, said Rajneesh Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini).

Police said an FIR had been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible material. The maximum punishment under the sections is 10 years. 

This has shaken the nation once again after the massive fire at Kamala Mills in Mumbai. This incident was condoled by many dignitaries through the twitter. PM Modi has tweeted “Deeply anguished by the fire at a factory in Bawana. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. May those who are injured recover quickly”.

 

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal paid condolences and has ordered for keeping a close watch on the rescue operations. As a compensation Delhi government has announced 5 Lakhs to the families of dead and 1 lakh to the injured.

 

Minister of Health, Home, Power,PWD, Industries, & Urban Development, Govt of Delhi, Satyendra Jain has tweeted “Learnt about a serious fire incident in a private factory at Bawana. Several casualties reported. Monitoring the situation.Ordered enquiry”
