Gujarat’s Cow Tourism tells economic benefits of keeping cows

Gandhinagar, January 22: The Gujarat Gauseva Ayog leading from the front has started a cow tourism project to popularise the animal. India being an agrarian economy also enjoys the distinction of having six lakhs villages in its fold and abode to 70% human population with animal husbandry as a part of the social and cultural heritage. Therefore, Gujarat leading from the front has started a cow tourism project to popularise the animal. 

The Gujarat Gauseva Ayog through the cow tourism project is attracting the people who are interested to know how cows are reared and how products are made with cow urine and dung. The two-day trip to some of the best-kept cow shelters and grazing spots in the state leads to enlightening us with all the necessary information about cows. Dharmaj village near Anand is one of the destinations on the tour.

Gauseva Ayog Chairperson Vallabh Kathiria while speaking about the advantages of this new and innovative step said that cow tourism is a step towards making people understand the economic benefits of keeping cows. “Most people are not aware that we can earn a good income by preparing some basic products, such as biogas and medicines, using cow dung and urine,” he added.

Vallabh Kathiria said, “Cow urine has medicinal properties and is used to make organic phenyl and soap, while cow dung is used to produce biogas, fertilizers and incense sticks.” “People who are concerned about the well-being of cows take ideas from such model gauchar during the trip and implement them at their village,” Kathiria said, adding that several people who attended the tour have started rearing cows and built their own cow shelters.

However, the Gujarat Gauseva Ayog is also planning other projects to popularise cow rearing. At present, it is in talks with jails and educational institutes to build cow shelters on their premises.
