Padmaavat row: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh files review petition against SC order

New Delhi, January 22: Anticipating the law and order situation with the grand release of Sanjay Lila Bhansali’s Padmaavat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh government has approached the apex court and filed a review petition against the order passed by the top judicial body.  Even after the strict directions of the supreme court, poll-bound states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are not ready to accept the decision of apex court. According to media reports, on 23rd January, the apex court will take the final call on the reported review plea submitted by the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh state government. Padmaavat is all set to hit the screens on January 25.
 
On January 18, the Supreme court came down heavily on five state government for stalling the much-awaited period drama by imposing a state-wide ban. With interim relief to the presenters of Padmaavat, a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud had directed respective states to ensure the law and order situation and asked state administration to fine-tune security measures for the same. Earlier, filmmakers approached the Supreme Court of India anticipating the huge revenue losses due to directives issued by the state government.

Made with a whopping budget of 190 crores, Padmaavat is the most controversial through much anticipated period drama helmed by legendary director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Bankrolled by leading production house Viacom18 Motion Pictures in association with Bhansali Productions, the period drama is based on the fictional work of Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Touted to be a visual treat, Sanjay Lila Bhansali’s much anticipated period flick will hit the screens on January 25 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. It will be the first Indian film to get a global IMAX 3D release.
