BSF fires 9,000 rounds of mortar shells in retaliation to unprovoked ceasefire violations from Pakistan

Srinagar, January 23: Shameless Pakistani forces continue to resort unprovoked firing in the Indian side along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir. But in retaliation, Indian security forces have also fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells across the IB Jammu in the past four days.

 

The BSF official on Monday said that the security force has fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells across the IB in Jammu in the past four days as part of a pinpointed retaliatory action against Pakistan's unprovoked ceasefire violations. “BSF in retaliatory action destroyed firing positions and fuel dumps of the Pakistan Rangers at multiple places,” BSF official added.

The official further stated that Pakistan first breached the peace and hit BSF posts and civilian areas to which they retaliated heavily and fired over 9,000 rounds of mortar shells since January 19. The BSF also noted that the force was retaliating with pinpointed fire which destroyed firing positions, mortar launching pads and ammunition and fuel dumps of the Pakistan Rangers at multiple places.

Importantly, the BSF has lost two men in these firing incidents since January 19. In all, 12 people, including five security personnel, have been killed and over 60 others injured in Pakistani firing from across the border in Jammu since Thursday.

Meanwhile, looking at the threats and the safety of people across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day, security along the International Border (IB) was beefed up. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the International Border (IB) and the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir more than 720 times last year, the highest in the past seven years.

According to data compiled by the Union Home Ministry, Pakistani forces have violated ceasefire 724 times along the IB and the LoC till October in comparison to 449 times in 2016. On the other side, in tactical operations and retaliatory cross-border firings along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army has eliminated at least 138 Pakistan Army personnel last year.
