Indian shuttler Siddharth Singh grabs Swedish Open Junior International Series title

Uppsala, January 23: Indian shuttler Siddharth Pratap Singh grabbed the Swedish Open Junior International Series title after defeating Denmark’s Mads Christophersen in the summit clash that was played in Uppsala, Sweden. Notably, this is Siddharth’s first international title.

 

Young shuttler Siddharth Singh registered a commanding victory over Denmark’s Mads Christophersen by 21-15, 21-11 in his career’s first final that lasted for only 33 minutes. Siddharth showcased all his skills and experiences during and clinched crucial points at each and every interval of the match.

Though the first set was a bit interesting as Siddharth’s rival tried to make a comeback several times during the first set but it was the Indian who maintained the lead and won the set by 21-15. The second set was easier for Siddharth to grab as Mads Christophersen stood nowhere in front of his attack. Siddharth easily bagged the second set by 21-11 and won the title.

Earlier, in the tournament, Siddharth registered a hard-fought win against Denmark’s Patrick Bjerregaard, beating the Danish player 21-23, 23-21, 21-15. The 19-year old them defeated world No 104 Sergey Sirant 21-15, 21-9 in the second round, before disposing of Sweden’s Felix Burestedt and Indonesia’s Hermansah in straight games. Importantly, Siddharth, who has never played outside Asia, will next play in the Iceland International at Reykjavik to be held from January 25 to 28.
