RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav gets 5 years of imprisonment in third #fodderscam case

Ranchi, January 24: A special CBI court Wednesday convicted Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in another Fodder Scam that is related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 35 crore and Rs 62 lakh from Chaibasa treasury during the 1990s. The court has sentenced him five years of imprisonment.

 

Notably, a decade-long of corruption has finally reached to its conclusion now as RJD supremo and former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav is all set to serve imprisonment of five years in another Fodder Scam that is related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 35 crore and Rs 62 lakh from Chaibasa treasury during the 1990s.

Another former chief minister of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra, was also found guilty in the case by the special court. Meanwhile, after the verdict, Lalu's son and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav said that "people of Bihar believe that Lalu ji is a hero". He further alleged that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had played a major role in framing Lalu Prasad in fodder scam case.

Importantly, Lalu Prasad Yadav is presently lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda jail. He had been convicted in the second fodder scam case on December 23, following which the court on January 6 of this year had sentenced him a three-and-a-half year of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

Other convicts including Phool Chand, Mahesh Prasad, Bake Julious, Sunil Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Sudhir Kumar and Raja Ram were also fined with Rs 5 lakh in a fodder case. While Jagdish Sharma and other four convicts get 7 years in imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 10 lakh.

Earlier, Lalu Prasad Yadav was also convicted by the special CBI court in the Deoghar leg of the fodder scam case on December 23 last year. Among all the accused guilty seven were acquitted. Another former Bihar Chief Minister who was another heavyweight politician accused in the case has been acquitted along with 6 others.

The Fodder Scam is a corruption scandal that involved the embezzlement of a huge amount of money from the government treasury of Bihar. Among those implicated in the theft and arrested were then Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, as well as former Chief Minister, Jagannath Mishra. The scandal led to the end of Lalu's reign as Chief Minister.
