‘Be Healthy Be Mobile’ initiative helps individuals to quit tobacco

New Delhi, January 24: We all come across advertisements of Quit Tobacco but how seriously do we take these ads? The Mukesh advertisements at the beginning of the movie in theatres had grabbed a lot of attention and became famous within no time.


 

In order to create awareness and remove people from the clutches of smoking the Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) has started an initiative to curb tobacco. This initiative with the help of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is a utilization of mobile technology to quit smoking. WHO-ITU’s ‘Be Healthy Be Mobile’ initiative, aims to reach out to tobacco users of all categories who want to quit tobacco use and support them towards successful quitting through constant text messaging on mobile phones. The initiative is fully supported by the Government of India.

This mobile initiative enables registration in this program through their website by one click on https://www.nhp.gov.in/quit-tobacco-about-programme_mtl or the person can also give a missed call on 011-22901701.

Apart from the quitting tobacco programme the health department has also looked after other serious issues which hampers the people in the society. Some of these are pertaining to diseases like diabetes wherein a program to curb issues related to diabetes is taken into consideration. Thus this initiative helps in creating awareness and help people to deal with quitting the use of tobacco.

 Nearly 35% of the adults in India (15 years and above) which comprises of around 275 million persons, consume tobacco in some form or the other. Tobacco kills almost one million persons in India every year. Tobacco is also a major risk factor for cancer, CVDs, chronic lung diseases & stroke. Quitting tobacco can relieve people from various diseases and problems.
