India coast to get an aquaculture makeover aiming at employment generation

Margao, January 29: In a first-of-its-kind tie-up in India's marine sector, COOP Cooperative, one of Switzerland's biggest retail and wholesale companies, is partnering with Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) to develop export-oriented organic aqua farming in India to cater to the growing demand for organic seafood products across the globe. 


 To have a proper development of aquaculture satellite imagery will be used to systematically map the salty and barren tracts of land. This is aimed as one of the biggest employment generators in the seafood sector. The government is also aiming at doubling the export of marine products in the next few years.

While addressing the 21st India International Seafood Show, Minister of Department of Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu kept forward the idea of generating the biggest employment in the aqua sector. This idea of having an aquaculture makeover will help in generating employment with having the use of land that is not applicable for any purpose like the barren land. With the use of mapping the areas fit for potential development, will be taken into consideration and likewise work for improving the aquaculture.
 
 Active work participation with the states to make sure they are able to optimally use these lands and take advantage of their exports potential the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and the Seafood Exporters Association of India would work together to come up with a detailed strategy to build robust aquaculture and fisheries industries in the next three months and facilitate its immediate implementation.
