Kabul, January 29: Over eleven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and sixteen others wounded in a clash in Greshk district of Afghanistan on Sunday. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Basir Mujahid, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief, has confirmed that 11 army personnel were killed and at least 16 others were wounded in an attack on Marshal Fahim Military University in Kabul early Monday morning.

Clashes between security forces and insurgents lasted for about five hours after a group of five attackers tried to enter the facility.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence Dawlat Waziri said two insurgents blew themselves up, two were killed and a third was arrested.

The two suicide bombers detonated their explosives at the gate, Waziri said.

“Two attackers were detonated his explosive close to the academy and two other were killed by the security forces while the fifth one arrested,” he added.

Soon after the attack happened, a source inside the camp said explosions and gunfire could be heard coming from the direction of the entrance.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan yesterday observed a day of national mourning as the death toll in yesterday's Kabul blast has risen to 103. The blast claimed by the Taliban also left 235 others injured. The attack was one of the worst to strike the capital in recent years.
