From now on West Bengal has its very own logo, ‘Biswa Bangla’

Kolkata, January 4: New Year gifts a brand new symbol to West Bengal as ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo gets official approval. The logo will be officially introduced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday which was unveiled in last year May. Recently, a high level of political controversy was created regarding the famous Biswa Bangla logo.

Many states in India including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar already had their own logos. From now on, Bengal is a new addition to the list. The distinct feature of Bengal’s logo is that it contains the national emblem, the logo highlights Biswa Bangla theme with Ashoka pillars on it.

In May 2017, the state applied for the change of its name as well as logo. The officials have received the approval letter from the Centre. From now onwards they will be able to use the logo as the state symbol.

The logo is brainchild of Bengal CM Banerjee. The symbol was conceptualized to give a separate identity to Bengal. A special committee, headed by eminent artist Jogen Chowdhury approved the design before sending it to Delhi.
