New Delhi, January 4: New Supreme Court directive to BCCI may clear up the road for Bihar to participate in India’s premier domestic Cricket tournament, Ranji Trophy. SC on Thursday directed the BCCI to allow the state team of Bihar to compete in the tournament.

A division bench of judges headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, passed the order. As Bihar was not a permanent member of BCCI, the association did not allow the state to participate in Ranji Trophy.

“The order allowing Bihar to participate in national cricket championships passed keeping in view the cause of cricket,” the bench said. Bihar must play cricket and Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) should be made in-charge of the sport.

There is a pending issue between the Bihar and Jharkhand associations. When BCCI referred chief justice replied by saying, "We will decide the dispute later. First, let Bihar play cricket."
