Pyongyang, January 4: After two long years of conflict, North Korea reopened border hotline with South Korea on Wednesday. The conversation on phone of two countries is definitely a major breakthrough of diplomacy this year. North Korea initiated the dialogue with its neighbor. The development came following North Korea’s proposal to send its delegation in Winter Olympics.

As per local reports, the first call was brief as checking for the hotline is still open. South Korean’s President Moon Jae’s Press Secretary called this restoration as very significant. "It creates an environment where communication will be possible at all times," he said. The two countries last communicated via hotline in December 2015.

“We will try to keep close communications with the South Korean side from sincere stand(sic) and honest attitude, true to the intention of our supreme leader, and deal with the practical matters related to the dispatch of our delegation,” the North’s KCNA news agency quoted Ri Son Gwon, chairman of North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, as saying.

The US clearly showed skeptic attitude towards the decision. The US side thinks talks will be proved fruitful if any step is taken towards the ban on North Korea’s nuclear weapon. US state department spokesman Heather Nauert said that Kim's latest move may be trying to drive a wedge of some sort.
