New Year’s gift to Bengal: CM Mamata Banerjee unveils State logo

Kolkata, January 5: Officially Bengal gets her own state logo with the beginning of new year. After receiving official approval, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has officially unveiled the logo on Friday. Recently, a high level of political controversy was created regarding the famous Biswa Bangla logo.

The State Government had applied for a State logo in the month of May in 2017 as well as for the change of name. The proposal to change the name of the State is also under consideration. But the confirmation letter for the logo from Central Government earlier this week.

The official clearance has been received in this New Year. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on the occasion, “Bengal Government has own logo. This is a historic moment. We will use this logo for all government communication.” This logo is a New Year gift for the people of the State, she said.

The Chief Minister has herself designed Bengal’s logo. It features ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo along with Ashoka Pillar. All government documents will now feature this logo. Many states in India including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar already had their own logos. From now on, Bengal is a new addition to the list.

The symbol was conceptualized to give a separate identity to Bengal. A special committee, headed by eminent artist Jogen Chowdhury approved the design before sending it to Delhi.
