Tokyo, January 6: Gone are the days of panicking when you have a crack on your phone screen. Researchers have come up with a glass which can heal your broken screen and give back the original touch. While researching new kinds of adhesives, researchers at the University of Tokyo came upon a type of glass that could repair its own cracks.

Two broken wrecks can fuse back together in just a few seconds with firm pressure, and the glass regains its original strength in a couple of hours. Self-repairing glass is surely a pleasing vision for a wide range of industries. For the smartphone industry, it could mean self-healing displays and glass backs.

There were self-healing materials on smartphones earlier, like the LG G Flex and G Flex 2's plastic back that could repair light scratches from objects like keys. But the idea was not successful on the long run because other smartphones have not yet adopted the self-healing plastic. The reason could be because smartphone makers have swung away from plastic on their premium devices altogether in favor of metal or glass.

Self-healing glass is doubtfully more appealing. Smartphones dealing with self-healing glass have to be more developed and firm for the upcoming smartphones. Nevertheless, what seemed like a virtual thing in the past is now becoming reality.
