Global Konkan Festival kicks off to foster self-employment opportunities and tourism

Mumbai, January 7: Launching ‘Global Konkan Festival’, Union Commerce and Industry Miniter Suresh Prabhu pitched for providing livelihood, generating self-employment opportunities and connecting youth hailing from Konkan with global trends.


‘Global Konkan’ aims to provide better livelihood to the people and generating self-employment opportunities. The 5-day event held in Navi Mumbai's CIDCO exhibition centre and is expected to attract around 3-4 lakh visitors across the state. Global Kokan Festival is international festival being organised by Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan since last 5 years. Global Kokan Event is very much commendable initiative towards the development of tourism, business, and entrepreneurship in Konkan.
Make in Kokan is one of the new initiative being taken up this year in this event as a part of Make in India initiative. This initiative would channelize business, entrepreneurship and investment. Govt. of India, Industry and Commerce Dept. is one of the participants. I take this opportunity to invite all of you to participate and be part of this New India 2022 Movement.

Speaking at the inauguration of 6th Global Kokan Festival, Minister Suresh Prabhu said that a delegation of experts will soon visit the Konkan region to explore opportunities for "Make in Konkan". Further Prabhu said that the "Make in India" initiative of the Centre will be successful only if it happens at the state and district levels.
"As Railway Minister I had undertaken a program of developing a joint tourism circuit including Konkan and Goa regions. Now as Minister for Commerce and Industry I want to take the Make in India concept to the Konkan," he said. "We want to explore how the startup programme of the Centre can be implemented in Konkan," he added.
