Kolkata, January 7: Daily passengers in Kolkata who are eagerly waiting for Eat-West metro project, good news comes to them with the unveiling of the east-west demo coach. The Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) on Saturday unveiled a demo coach built by Bengaluru-based BEML Ltd for East-West metro corridor. The demo coach will start its work within few days but on an experimental basis.

The demo coach has distinct features which earlier recks of Kolkata metro did not have. The new demo reck can run in the double speed of existing ones and has amenities for the disabled passenger. It has inbuilt features to take a wheel-chair bound person directly inside the compartment. Officials said the new East-West corridor will be safer also.

As like many other metro cities in India, Kolkata has a problem of heavy traffic too. So, many people who have to travel from Kolkata and suburbs to Salt Lake which is a long route by road as well as a crowded one. For those commuters, the new project will be a blessing. Hence, citizens are waiting eagerly for the completion of the project.

The work of East-West metro corridor started in 2009. Since then, it faced various obstacles and could not be finished without the timeline. Local media reports say, wheels of East-West metro will start rolling this year, though partially.
