Bengaluru, January 7: On his first election rally in Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attacked Congress for diving people on the religious lines. CM Yogi was addressing the BJP Nava Karnataka Nirmana Parivartana rally at Vijayanagar, Bengaluru.

While addressing the rally, CM Yogi took a dig over Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, saying that “When the BJP was in power in the State, we had enacted a law prohibiting cow slaughter. The Congress government, soon after coming to power, repealed that law. Now with elections approaching, Siddaramaiah has remembered that he is a Hindu,” he teasingly said.

Continuing his attack, he said there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state as there were over the murders of 20 Hindu activists in the State. “The Congress has not made its stand clear on this important women's empowerment bill,” he alleged.

He later accused the Congress of practicing divisive politics in the name of religion and caste in the State. Further asking Karnataka CM over promoting beef, CM Adityanath said, "Hinduism is a way of life. It holds high values in esteem. It doesn't allow eating beef. If Siddaramaiah consider himself a Hindu, then why he promotes eating beef?"

Meanwhile Siddaramaiah at a recent political convention had said, "I am also Hindu and I have Rama in my name. BJP people should refrain from calling me anti-Hindu." Over this Adiyanath said Siddaramaiah has 'suddenly and 'ahead of the election' realised that he is Hindu .

"The strength of Hindus makes people like Siddaramaiah realise that he is a Hindu. Even Rahul Gandhi starts visiting temples," Adityanath quipped.
