California, January 8: The actor Aziz Ansari became the first Asian male to win a Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy series when he took home the trophy for “Master of None.” “I genuinely didn’t think I would win because all the websites said I was going to lose,” Ansari said.

He won over Kevin Bacon (“I Love Dick”), William H. Macy (“Shameless”), Eric McCormack (“Will & Grace”), and Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”). The series was also up for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy (but lost to “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel”). In 2016, Ansari was nominated for the same role and category but did not take home the prize.

He joked, “It would have really sucked to lose two of these in a row.” He then thanked the cast and crew of Master of None, which streams on Netflix. The series is a comedy about a 30-year-old actor’s personal and work life in New York.

Master of None is an American comedy-drama web television series, which was released for streaming on November 6, 2015, on Netflix. The series was created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, and stars Ansari in the lead role of Dev Shah, a 30-year-old actor, mostly following his romantic, professional, and cultural experiences. The first season was set in New York City and consisted of ten episodes. The second season, which takes place in Italy and New York, consists of ten episodes and was released on May 12, 2017.

Golden Globe Awards are accolades bestowed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association beginning in January 1944, recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign.
