All schools in Haryana to remain closed until 14th January due to intense cold wave

Chandigarh, January 8: As cold wave has become hyperactive in northern states, normal life is crumpled in many states of the zone. Due to prevailing intense cold wave, Haryana government has decided to extend winter holidays in all schools across the state until 14th January.

Normal life is already affected in several places owing to dense fog. Transport services in every sector i.e., in road, air, rail are not running properly. In north-western plains, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh, were covered under a dense fog, visibility level reduced severely leading to disrupted train and flight services.

Haryana’s Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said in view of the severe cold prevailing in the state, all state-run, government-aided and private schools will remain closed up to January 14. The schools were scheduled to reopen from January 8 after the normal winter break.

Intense cold has been biting Haryana for more than a week. Minimum temperatures are hovering between 2 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius while maximum temperatures have been settling in the range of 14 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius.

Many cities in Punjab and Haryana witnessed a record low temperature this season. Haryana’s Narnaul and Hisar towns recorded minimum temperatures of 1.5 degrees and 2.4 degrees. Two famous Punjab cities Amritsar and Ludhiana saw 2.6 and 4.4 degrees.
