Moscow, January 8: Wrapping up the process of receiving documents from aspiring candidates, Russian Central Election Commission has informed that 15 independent applicants are likely to run in upcoming Presidential Election. Initially, 46 candidates claimed to run in the election when the final date was announced.
Current Russian President Vladimir Putin’s main opposition Aleksei Navalny’s was canceled by Russian CEC. Navalny went to Russia’s Supreme Court to overcome the ban but the apex court rejected the appeal.
On the other hand, to secure Putin’s ballot n Russia’s 2018 presidential election, his supporters have begun with supporters from his “Volunteers of Victory” movement seeking the 300,000 signatures he needs to qualify.
Self-nominated candidates must collect at least 300,000 signatures of voters in order to be registered, at least 7,500 signatures in each Russian region. Candidates from non-parliamentary parties require 100,000 signatures, candidates from parliamentary parties do not have to collect signatures.
