Chandrababu Naidu reviews Polavaram site; announces mega river-linking project

Rajahmundry, January 9: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that state government has decided to launch a state-wide river linking programme in order to address all issues related to irrigation and agriculture.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the construction site of Polavaram, Babu stated that under the banner of Maha Sangamam, the inter-linking of five rivers - the Godavari, Krishna, Penna, Nagavali, and Vamsadhara – would provide water to 40.26 lakh acres in nine districts from Srikakulam to Nellore. He further added that the ambitious project would increase water storage capacity up to 196 tmcft.

Briefing about the progress of Polavaram, the Chief Minister informed that near about Rs 16,000 crore has already been spent on the Polavaram project with the completion of 4.79 lakh cubic meters of concrete wall work. Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing construction, TDP Chief hoped that the national multipurpose irrigation project would be completed as per schedule.

Refuting all the report about relief and rehabilitation ((R&R) package, Babu assured that all project evacuees would get their legitimate share as per the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. On this occasion Ministers D. Umamaheswara Rao, Pitani Satyanarayana, MPs Maganti Venkateswara Rao, Seethamahalakshmi, Irrigation Secretary Sasibhushan, and Collector K. Bhaskar were present.
