Chandigarh, January 9: With the ongoing change in climate, weather, atmosphere water crisis is becoming a prominent problem globally. Against this backdrop, Haryana’s plan to rejuvenate its canal system is necessary as well as praiseworthy. The state is planning so to utilize surplus water in the monsoon for conservation as well as irrigation.

Haryana’s water resources department is already running vigorous campaign on the issue. The campaign has resulted in feeding of almost all the tails in monsoon season except seven critical tails. ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ project has helped to feed many tails, which were critical and not fed for the past 25 years.

Already the state has completed work to repair and clear the canals and watercourses. Rejuvenation of Petwar, Hisar Major, Prithla and Loharu distributaries and Chander, Panjokhra, Saily and Jahajirpur minors has entered final stage.

The Haryana government approved Rs 489 crore canal augmentation project passing through Yamunanagar and Karnal districts in December. NABARD has approved Rs 300 crore for rehabilitation of 564 watercourses.
