Panmunjom, January 9: Finally positive result comes out of much awaited inter-Korean talks held on Tuesday morning. North Korea will send a delegation and performing art squads to Winter Olympics hosted by South Korea. It is definitely a major breakthrough or can be seen as the hermit country’s first attempt to come out of alienation.

The two Koreas held an official talk after two long years at the shared border village of Panmunjom. North Korea said that it will send a delegation of high-ranking officials and others, including athletes, cheering and performing art squads, taekwondo demonstration , teams and journalists, on the occasion of the Winter Games. The talk followed a proposal of Kim Jong Un to send delegation in Winter Games.

During this highly emotional talk, South Korea also proposed North to march together in opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. Last time, two Koreas marched together under Korean Peninsula flag was in 2006. The response to this offer is not known yet.

As South Korea has been telling continuously, it has also raised issue reuniting families divided in 1950-53 Korean war. It also proposed to hold military talks to prevent accidental conflict along the border. "North Korea proposed resolving issues regarding inter-Korean ties through dialogue and negotiations for peace and unity on the peninsula," a Minister from South Korea said.

Both the Koreas want to take forward this talk to higher level. After a year of tension, this is certainly a dramatic change. But many people in South believe the talk won’t be able to contribute anything to denuclearize Korean peninsula.
