Extending helping hand to pregnant women, Assam launches Wage Compensation Scheme for better nutrition

Guwahati, September 29: Initiating a path-breaking decision in contemplating the issues faced by women during pregnancy and stressing on providing proper healthcare facilities, Assam government today launched the Wage Compensation scheme. The Wage Compensation scheme for pregnant women working in the tea gardens will help them incur good nutrition and income for their families.

 

It is very essential for a pregnant women to take proper care of herself by consuming nutritional food. Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the scheme will provide better health and nutrition supplements to the pregnant women. The state government aims to provide Rs 12,000 to the pregnant woman so that she could take care of herself and unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of her family.

The compensation of wages to pregnant women will be given in 4 installments. The scheme is likely to reduce and maternal and neonatal mortality in the tea areas.

The central government in order to enable healthcare services at par has started the POSHAN Abhiyaan which has helped women on a large scale.
