Bhilai Steel Plant accident: Steel Minister announces Rs. 30 lakh compensation to kins of victims

Raipur, October 11: Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh has announced compensation of 30 lakh rupees to each family of victims who lost their lives in the Bhilai Steel Plant fire incident. Mr Singh today visited the plant where twelve people were killed and ten injured following a blast in the gas pipeline on Tuesday.


 

The Minister also directed SAIL to provide employment to the next of kin who died in the accident and free education to be given to children up to graduation level.

The Minister also interacted with the family members of the victims. He also announced compensation of 15 lakh rupees each for those who have serious injuries and two lakh rupees for those with minor injuries.

The families of the deceased will receive statutory compensation ranging from 33 to 90 lakh rupees in addition to the compensation announced by the Minister. Also, a team of 4 doctors from AIIMS Delhi has been deputed at Bhilai to provide specialized care to the injured.

Chief Executive Officer of the Plant was removed and two other senior officials were suspended today. The blast took place in a pipeline near coke oven section of the Bhilai Steel plant situated in Durg district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
