#MeToo: Government appoints panel to frame strong law against sexual harassment

New Delhi, Oct 24: Taking cognizance of the horrifying #MeToo accounts, the central government today formed a ministerial panel to look into the matter of sexual harassment.

Under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Group of Ministers will chalk-out the legal and institutional framework to strengthen the existing grievance redressal system. Union Ministers like Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman and Maneka Gandhi will also be the part of the centrally appointed group of Ministers.

Speaking to the media, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval of Group of Ministers which will work towards the safety of women. Gandhi informed that GOM will look into all the aspects of what is necessary to give security to our women at the workplace.

 

Earlier, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi launched a digital platform to report the sexual harassment at workplace. The women and Child welfare Minister assured that all the #MeToo accounts will be probed by concern agencies and guilty will be brought to book. The senior Minister also urged political parties to set-up an internal committee to address the problem of sexual harassment.
