Honored with UN’s Champions of the Earth Award, PM Modi dedicates the success to Indian citizens

New Delhi, October 3: It’s not just India, but the entire world saw how India is transforming itself in creating a remarkable example in climatic change. Receiving the United Nation's Champions of the Earth Award for 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the world community for acknowledging India's effort to save environment.

 

Being the people’s Prime Minister, PM Modi dedicated the award to the countless Indians and their efforts towards achieving climate justice. He also stated that it is a proud moment for India to host such an event.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “Climate and calamity are directly related to culture; if climate is not the focus of culture, calamity cannot be prevented. When I say ‘Sab ka Saath,’ I also include nature in it.” Giving credit to farmers and the indigenous communities, PM Modi said they are the true recipients of the award. He also said that from sewer to surveillance, India is shifting towards smart technology.

 

PM Modi appreciated the efforts taken by the tribal people in creating this change. He dedicated the award to Indian citizens asserting that the behavioral change and the changing thought process is the result of this successful attempt to combat climate change. India, today, has Water and Energy conservation which are mounted from houses to streets, from workplaces to roads, from ports and from airports, from LED bulbs to Rain Water harvesting, promoting technology at all levels.

 

The country's National highway, Expressway, being made to be eco friendly, is being developed as well as Green corridor. A city transport network like Metro is also being linked to Solar Energy.

 

Speaking earlier at the event United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said PM Modi's example not followed enough by other world leaders. In PM Narendra Modi, we have a leader who realises the issue of climate change and understands the benefits of climate action. He knows the problems & also works to solve them.

PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron were jointly awarded the honour for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting new areas of cooperation on environmental action.
