DD News cameraman, cops killed in C’garh Naxal attack

Raipur, New Delhi, Oct 30: A DD News cameraman and two policemen were killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Tuesday. The Maoist-affected Bastar region of the state will be going to polls on November 12 in the first phase of the assembly elections.

Two security officers were also injured in the attack that took place in Dantewara’s Aranpur village. The cops were patrolling the area when the attack took place.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has strongly condemned the cowardly and dastardly attack on DD News Crew in Dantewada. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has expressed condolence over the death of DD News cameraperson in the Naxal attack and said government stand in solidarity with family of the cameraman and will take care of his family.

The DD News team was in Dantewada for covering the election campaign and related news. Two other DD News staffers, including a journalist are reported to be safe.

DIG (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sundarraj said that the Naxals ambushed the patrolling party in Aranpur. Those killed in this attack were identified as Sub-Inspector Rudra Pratap, Assistant Constable Manglu and DD News cameraman Achyutananda from Delhi, he said. Security was further tightened in the aftermath of the attack, he added.

State Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh condemned the attack on security personnel and DD News cameraperson and described the act as ‘attack on democracy’.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has condemned the dastardly attack on DD News crew and policemen by Naxals in Chhattisgarh. He expressed sincere condolences to the bereaved families.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal has expressed anger over the Naxal attack on police and DD News crew in Dantewada. In a tweet message he strongly condemned such cowardly and dastardly act.

BJP leader Gauri Shankar strongly condemned the Naxals attack on DD News cameraperson and expressed condolence to the family.
